Synopsis

A huge meteorite impact in the Pacific Ocean sets off a chain of environmental disturbances and unearths Mothra’s gigantic egg on Infant Island. A greedy developer kidnaps Mothra’s tiny twin fairies better known as the priestesses, and when Mothra’s larva plunders Tokyo trying to rescue them, the military opened fire on the giant insect and she eventually cocoons and wraps itself around the Diet Building. Eventually she emerges as an adult moth as one would call her Mothra. Meanwhile, Battra, Mothra’s legendary nemesis, reawakens in the Arctic and attacks Nagoya, and the battle ensues when Godzilla of actually shows up and down another battle happens undersea with Battra both Godzilla and Battra disappear into the volcano. Eventually Mothra and Battra after battling each other eventually come to their senses and settle their differences and unite against their common Kaiju enemy and that is Godzilla.

What Do I Think of This Movie

There are some good points about this movie one the Godzilla design and to the new evil Mothra called Battra this design larva stage was really really cool? The adult version I do like but not as well as the larva stage. The battle sequences between Mothra, Battra and Godzilla right top in fight scenes within the Heisei Series. The new Cosmos are the names of the new priestesses that you see several times in the Heisei Series. They would change within the Shinsei Series as their new girls. However there are new Alias in the Mothra series they are the new priestesses and all 3 of the rebirth series of movies. I did not see anything within this movie that could pass judgment on Orsay was cheesy it was pretty much spot on with action and the storyline.

Trivia

This film’s origin went back to 1990 with the concept Mothra Vs. Bagan. The film would include battles all across Asia in places like Shanghai and Bangkok. However, when Gojira tai Biorante (1989) failed, Toho blamed the fact that an unfamiliar monster was used and this project was put on hold to give Godzilla another shot with Gojira tai Kingu Gidora (1991).

Continuity

  • Here are some continuities within this film.
  • When Battra first makes landfall, as the terrified Japanese pedestrians are running for their lives, take note of a woman to the right of the screen wearing a brown pant suit and carrying a black purse. She is still running in the next crowd scene on the sidewalk. The next time we see her, she is running up the stairs from the subway, having apparently taken the “A” train to escape the rampaging monster.

Revealing Mistakes

  • Here are some mistakes in a quite obvious within this film.
  • When Godzilla is grappling with Mothra Larva in the sea, right before he throws it, a string is visible on Mothra.
  • When the larva Mothra bites Godzilla’s tail in the ocean, look closely at the base of the tail as it’s tossing Mothra upwards. You can clearly see the tail is a separate prop on some kind of support that has distorted its shape – widening it unnaturally.
  • Strings holding up Mothra and Battra are visible in some scenes. The bright studio lights make them easy to spot against the dark background.

Closing Statements

Some say that this is the worst remake since the original Mothra versus Godzilla 1964 and I don’t totally disagree with them, but because I am a Godzilla fan I do appreciate the remaking of films by giving the monsters a new look and sometimes the storyline and I do mean sometimes turns out to be okay or improve the little bit. The storyline is not the worst. The things I can say that a good are the new monster Battra especially the larva stage great design here. The adult version not the worst I’ve seen but not the best. Mothra she doesn’t changed too much she looks just like a big fluffy butterfly nice and soft. The movie was pretty good for the most part was entertaining I do have the entire collection on hand including all Mothra series, Gamera, King Kong and this list goes on and on. If you haven’t seen any of the Heisei Series movies you might want to check this without if you’re a big Mothra fan or Godzilla fan you get the best of both worlds.
